Overview

Summary:

Work in concert with Maternal-Fetal physicians to obtain high quality images and provide exceptional patient care.

Responsibilities:

Essential Functions

Documentation:

Ensure proper patient identification. Obtain appropriate consent(s) prior to procedure(s). Documents patient's prenatal history, medications, and allergies. Performs necessary documentation in the patient's chart during and upon completion of ultrasound. Maintain procedure log if indicated.

Maintenance of ultrasound room:Clean exam room surfaces (including exam bed) with approved disinfectant between patients. Sterilize ultrasound probes used with appropriate disinfectant. Once probes are dry, place clear plastic bag and green tape on ultrasound probe(s) to indicate they are clean and ready for use. Ensure clean towel, drape, pillow case, and table paper are available for next patient. Ensure floor is clean of debris and spills (if found, use appropriate universal precaution to remove).

Interpersonal Relationship Skills: Maintains a positive attitude constant with "Team Spirit" concept. Demonstrates ability to remain calm and objective in stressful situation. Work to establish a good rapport with the patient and fellow team members. Demonstrate willingness to be flexible as needed to accomplish departmental needs and goals. Demonstrate knowledge and effective use of customer service skills to satisfy the personal and practical needs of internal and external customers.

Operate Routine Equipment and Obtain High Quality Images:

Following routine standards, properly and safely manipulate ultrasound equipment within its limitations to obtain images. Use appropriate protocol to obtain required images. Critique images for quality and make necessary judgements to determine if they need to be repeated

Practice Effective Patient Care Skills:

Ensure proper patient identification prior to ultrasound. Explain ultrasound/procedure to the patient prior to beginning and post procedure instructions as indicated. Provide an atmosphere conductive to gain the patient's cooperation and confidence. Maintain sterile equipment.

Human Experience:

Gain customer confidence through competence, good communication, and trust building behaviors.

Show courage through creating and sharing innovative ideas to improve the experience for both patients and peers.

Round on patients to create meaningful connections and keep patients informed of visit details (delays/wait times).

Explain all processes to patients in plain language and utilize teach back to ensure understanding.

Non-Essential Functions

Advanced Doppler Studies: Umbilical Artery Doppler, MCA Velocities, Ductus Venosus

Ultrasound Guidance of Comprehensive Procedures: Amniocentesis, CVS (Chorionic Villi Sampling), PUBS Procedure (Percutaneous Umbilical Cord Sampling), Placement of Fetal Stents/Shunts, Ultrasound guidance for treatment of ectopic pregnancy

Detailed Fetal Anatomic Survey

(76811 according to AIUM protocol):

Fetal Echocardiography:

4-CH (with and without color flow), RVOT, LVOT, 3VV, 3VT, Ductal Arch (with and without color flow) , Aortic Arch (with and without color flow), SVC/IVC, Pulmonary veins (with and without color flow), Short Axis of ventricles, Foramen Ovale

All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Credentials:Essential: Fetal Echocardiography Reg Diag Med Sonographer

Education:Essential: High School Diploma

Other information:

Education: 2 Year / Associate Degree Required. Must be a graduate of an AMA approved ultrasound technology program, ARDMS certified.

Experience: 1 Year OB experience preferred.

Licensure/Certification: RDMS, OB Required. NT Certification Preferred.

Additional Skills/Requirements (required):

Must be NT certified within first year of employment

Must have current BLS certification upon hire and maintain throughout employment as required by department

Must maintain ARDMS certification

Excellent communication skills required

Working knowledge of various ultrasound devices

Must have ability to independently obtain high quality images needed to assist MFM physician with diagnosis

Perform high-level sterilization according to Clinical Compliance standards following each exam

Ability to successfully complete departmental and organizational skills validation and competencies as required

Additional Skills/Requirements (preferred)

Able to perform independently to obtain high quality images and advanced Doppler techniques

Able to assist MFM physician with complex procedures

Ability to put patient at ease during ultrasound(s) and procedure(s)

Reconciles patient's medical and prenatal history, current medications, medication allergies etc.

Demonstrate willingness to be flexible as needed to accomplish departmental needs and goals
